NTT-AT Released High Performance Video Transcoding System “VAT-100”, Utilizing Ubitus Cloud Computing Technology

【 Taipei—Apr. 1, 2010 】2010— NTT-AT, a subsidiary of NTT, today unveiled the high performance transcoding system “VAT-100”, which features AVC/H.264 HDTV Software Encoder “HDVE-100”, a product utilizing the cloud computing technology enabled by Ubitus. This introduction of new system marks the next-generation of video distribution and allows NTT-AT to provide cutting-edge technology to its customers.

With VAT-100 system, high quality video can be produced with less administrative efforts and manpower. The additional benefit of storage cost reduction makes this system particularly suitable for educational organizations and ISP, whose digital contents are increasing dramatically every day.

Ubitus and NTT started their partnership for video distribution business since October, 2009. With the intention to enhance the performance of AVC/H.264 HDTV Software Encoder, NTT-AT evaluated Ubitus' cloud computing technologies as the best solution to achieve the goal and offer high performance transcoding system to its customers.

This system will be applied to NTT Plala’s “Hikari-TV” video distribution service and can transcode file formats from MPEG-2 to IPTV Forum/H.264. As NTT-AT continues its effort in driving high performance transcoding systems, Ubitus will work as a reliable partner to provide most customized solution to NTT-AT and further extend the support to video distributions across multiple devices in Japan and expand video distribution service worldwide.

NTT Plala Inc and ‘Hikari-TV’

Hikari-TV is a fast-growing IPTV service that was launched in 2008 by NTT Plala, a subsidiary of NTT Commnications Corp. The service offers over 70 TV channels (including over 30 high definition channels), IP retransmission of Japanese terrestrial digital broadcasting, and an extensive library of more than 10,000 video titles covering Hollywood hits, overseas dramas, period films, sports, Japanese animation, hobbies and much more.

Hikari-TV subscribers surpassed the one million mark in March 2010.

NTT Plala provides "triple-play" services to customer, as "Hikari-TV" and Internet Connectivity Services and Voice over IP.
